Retrieving Your Missing E-mail in MS Outlook Express
This tutorial shows you how to set up Microsoft Outlook Express to retrieve
your old emails. This tutorial focuses on setting up Microsoft Outlook Express
6, but these settings are similar in other versions of Microsoft Outlook
Express. You can set up previous versions of Microsoft Outlook Express by using
the settings in this tutorial.
To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Microsoft Outlook Express
In Microsoft Outlook Express, select Tools > Accounts...
Select the Mail tab in the Internet Accounts window and click Add ,
then Mail...
Enter you full name and click [ Next ]
Enter your e-mail address and click [ Next ]
On the E-mail Server Names window, enter your information as follows:
My incoming mail server is a
IMAP server
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server
64.39.235.130
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server
mail.olg.com
Click [Next ]
NOTE:
"mail.olg.com" is not an SMTP open-relay server. In order to use
this server to send e-mails, you must be using Online Gateway for your internet
connectivity. If you do not have Online Gateway internet access, your Internet
Service Provider (ISP) should have an SMTP server for you to use. You must use the outgoing mail server
for your Internet Service Provider. Contact your Internet Service
Provider to get this setting.
Enter your e-mail user name for your account name (This should be filled
in automatically when you enter the email address in the previous field.) and enter your password. Click
[ Next ]
Click [ Finish ]
Double-click on the account labeled "64.39.235.130"
Go to the IMAP tab and uncheck "Store special folders on IMAP server"
and Click [ OK ]
Click [ Close ]
Click [ Yes ]
Click on any Folder listed for which you would like retrieve mail and
click [ Show ]. Repeat until all desired folders have an icon in front of
them. When finished, click [ OK ]
Select the Inbox in the "64.39.235.130" section on the Left.
Click on any message on the right side of the window and then hit Ctrl-A
on your keyboard.
Select Edit > Move to Folder...
Select the Inbox in the "Local Folders" section and click [ OK ]
You will then have a screen that shows you the status of the move.
When this screen disappears, all messages from the old INBOX will have been
moved to the Local Folders Inbox.
Repeat Steps 13 -17 for each folder you want to move. You can
create new Local Folders in step 16 as needed.
After you have moved all the messages, you should remove the IMAP
account by right-clicking on "64.39.235.130" in the left column. Then select
Remove Account.
