1997 Canada Trip
Our yearly fishing trip started as it has for the past 6 years, with a rain storm. Not knowing if we were going to be able to fly in because of the storm. Previous to us arriving the Canadian government had closed all camps because of the forest fires. But we did get out on Saturday afternoon, a little later then we were supposed to.
We were packed to the top of the planes capacity. With me in the co-pilot seat (the only reason I am in the front is because I am the biggest) and the rest in the back on our way to "Kirk Island" camp on Lake Evans in northern Quebec. After about an hours flight in the Otter we arrived at the camp.
Upon seeing the camp we noticed that there had been some improvements to the camp. Becides the flags waving there had been an addition for a kitchen and now a generator to run the lights and refrigator. Next they will have flush toilets.
Our camp keepers tent wasn't so improved with only his hot plate and ice chest
We headed out with me telling my wife "Donna" what our plans were to catch the "Big" ones. A cold front had came in the previous day and it was pretty chilly even for this time of year.
The cold front stayed with us til the end of the week. This made the fishing for large pike very hard. One morning I got up to cook breakfeast and the eggs were frozen and they were in the tent with us.

Donna holds up a nights catch of walleyes for dinner. We caught a lot of nice large walleyes the first night about 4 pounds or so. We could not keep many to freeze since we had not yet gotten our refrigerator yet from the other camp because of the high winds on the large part of the lake.
I did catch some nice fish, though not the size that donna caught.

I did take along my fly rod
and this is the first pike I caught on one.
I used a fly tied by "Bearman" on this one.
But this is the largest one I got using a fly.
This is not the best photo. I had dropped our good camera in the lake the previous day and it was ruined. We had to take pictures from then on using a disposable camera.
Now with the week ending and good weather comming in we head back to camp to pack.

The plane at the dock ready for us to unload the next weeks group. A little side story about the trip out. My wife Donna was sitting next to the door in the rear. Upon starting to take off the door opened next to her and she got a little shook up about it. Don't know why? Her insurance was paid up. The pilot jumped out onto the pontoon and left me alone up front with the plane traveling down the lake to take care of the door. It was a little hectic for a few minutes though. We all arrived home safely after another 20 hours of driving. Can't wait til next years trip.........
The other guys fish in there own boat so I don't get many photos of them so here are some from last year.
